Bishop Feetham

The cottage home of Bishop John Feetham is worthy of a man who gave much of his time and energy to helping others. Anglican Bishop of North Queensland from 1913 to 1947, he poured all his efforts into his parishioners not his home.

A single bed with iron posts to hold up a mosquito net, a table with jug and basin for ablutions and a writing desk and lone chair. The only “extravagances” are a pedal organ and smaller, mobile folding organ.  Bishop Feetham took his ministry into the remote corners of Far North Queensland, contributing to the Australian Bush Brotherhoods of the time.  His life is celebrated in the Australian Anglican calendar with his feast day – known as Feetham mass – marked on September 15.
