Not to be missed! Strangely, Herberton historic village has no mention in the 2024 edition of Australia Lonely Planet Guide. I found it quite by chance ‘on-line’ while we were staying near Kuranda. It was the best discovery yet!
This beautifully re-created tin-mining village has the most extraordinary collection of early pioneering equipment to be seen anywhere. Not only mining equipment, but every sort of early manufactured items from wood-working tools, photographic equipment, recording equipment, sewing, cookware, pottery collection. There were displays of an old prison, old pub/inn, church, bakery, ironmongery etc. A large collection of vintage cars and commercial vehicles. .and much much more. An excellent (not-to-be missed) 30 minute film explained the village and its early development.
The grounds are beautifully maintained by a team of staff. There is a cafe/refreshment area with toilets. We spent much of the day in the village & didn’t manage to see it all.

My only suggestion: Contact Lonely Planet & make sure the village is included in next guide edition! It’s a fabulous (& educational) day out for all the family.

It is very interesting, allocate around 3 hours for the tour. It has many photo spots.

Cracking place and well worth the visit. All the buildings were local and brought together to create the village. Visit the chemist, the bank, schoolhouse and so much more. Cross the river for some Billy tea and damper at Pioneer Camp. One of the best places we’ve visited!

Extremely well presented display of history of Herberton. Lots to learn for young and old.

AMAZING. Absolutely huge area to explore, over 64 different display buildings, all kept in great condition. Very friendly staff and the cafe inside has GF and vegan options. Happy wife.

It was fantastic,we stayed until closing time! Couldn't believe the variety of different displays. Wonderful staff. Differently need at least 3 hours to see most of this village. Lunch was terrific from the cafeteria. Highly recommended 😃

We had a wonderful day yesterday visiting the historic village Hernerton. Such a great collection of items from buildings to tractors to sewing machines. Cars medical implements and even a collection of glass eyes. We really enjoyed the stream train ride too. Really worth a visit.

If you in to history and old machinery, this is the place to visit We spent 4 hours there and haven't seen all of it

Excellent, excellent. Well worth to see our past.everything was well set out and easy to see.you can take a dog on a leash and there is refreshment about half way round.takes a couple hours to see.you get a three day revisit ticket.

Absolutely amazing place to visit. The care and attention to detail were the best I've ever seen. There was so much to see and I liked that they provide an option to return over multiple days in the price of the ticket. Highly recommend visiting.

Excellent open air museum showing how people lived and worked in the area. Amazing amount of collections which are not placed behind glass but as y’all are good Aussies can be touched and seen up close. Beautiful layout, great toasties at the restaurant. Also would advise to see the film, it shows how a wilderness became a mining and agricultural landscape.

Amazing! Biggest musuem I have ever been to.. a lot to see and learn! Have to try the feed from the camp kitchen aswell if you go!

A Walk Back in Time The Historic Village, Herberton has the best display of artefacts, small and large. From each precious tea cup to the earliest John Deere tractor to the elegantly decorated homestead. The delicious outback cooking of damper with syrup, billy tea, beefy stew + more made by Bushy & his partner Shannon was outstanding. Ensure you have at least 5hrs to enjoy this historical gem. Loved it!!

Beautifully restored historic village - well worth the entry fee. We came to this not expecting too much but this place would have to be one of the best historic villages we have been to. Well set out with heaps of information, options of audio tour on your phone as well. Great food cooked in the open fire, damper was delicious! Really enjoyed our visit and the whole place is spotlessly clean! Very dog friendly, they’re allowed in all the buildings. Would highly recommend and you can get your ticket signed off to go back within 3 days.

Takes you back in history! Arrived on a quiet Monday which was great. Lots to look at, it is a really interesting 'living museum' and I would recommend you spend at least 3 or 4 hours. Most of it under some cover so great for hot/rainy days! It was dog friendly. Staff at the reception and cafe were really helpful and friendly. When you purchase a ticket, you can get a free return visit within 3 days making it great value.

Attended the pioneers weekend. So well organised! Amazing turn out! Couldn’t fault anything from the day!

Nice Historical village, they allowed us to take our dogs in the park which was great as we travel with our pets, there is a lot of stuff here, worth a visit.

Could spend days there.

This place is an absolute Jem & should be advertised all over Australia & worldwide.16 acres of late 1800s & 1900s old cars, tin mining machinery, steam machines, bulldozers, amazing early 1900s John Deere tractors, toys, dolls, fire engines, steam train rides, stage coaches, and an awesome 30 minuite massive movie screen of the past and every piece of memorabilia you could ever imagine. It's way to much to see in a full day. This is a must, must, must, visit for young & old. And you'll take home amazing memories.Tell everyone you know about this place. You'll be very impressed

THIS IS A 1ST CLASS HISTORICAL VILLAGE EXPERIENCE. I’VE SEEN MANY OF THESE OVER THE COUNTRY BUT THIS PLACE BLOWS MY MIND. PLAN TO SPEND AT LEAST A DAY OR TWO.

This is a very interesting and value packed historic village. I would visit again without hesitation. Great value and don’t forget to experience the Billy tea, damper and corned beef sandwich.
